New York City Chess-in-the-Schools Project Sponsors Educational Chess Program for UNESCO Romania
Rochester,
New York, USA - August 14, 2001
The World Genesis Foundation announced today the launch of a
new partnership with the New York City "Chess-in-the-Schools"
Program.
In cooperation with New York State Commissioner Randy Gordon and the New York City Chess-in-the-Schools program, a new educational program including chess instruction and tournaments has been integrated with a UNESCO summer learning academy for youth held in eastern Europe.
"Commissioner Randy Gordon's support for this idea was amazing. He has seen the value, firsthand as a chess-in-the-school instructor, that participation in the game of chess can bring to youth in both their studies and lives outside of school. With his enthusiastic support and coordination, in the last two weeks we have already launched the chess-in-the-school program with hundreds of youth in eastern Europe. Plans are already underway that will extend this opportunity to thousands of youth," said World Genesis President and CEO David Lewis Anderson.
Based on its successful launch the World Genesis Foundation is already planning for further expansion of this project in future UNESCO programs.
The World Genesis Foundation was founded on November 30, 1999 and is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to a vision and mission to "leave no child without hope for the future." Headquartered in Santa Fe, NM USA, the foundation supports activities worldwide to create educational, scientific and cultural opportunities for youth with a special focus in areas of the world where these opportunities are limited or do not exist.
