FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
20th Anniversary of UNESCO Youth Program in Romania is Coordinated and Launched by the World Genesis Foundation.
Rochester,
New York, USA - July 31, 2009
The World Genesis Foundation announced today the official
opening of the 20th Anniversary of the Atlantykron Summer
Academy of Learning in Capidava, Romania.
"In 1990 myself, Alexandru Mironov and Aurel Carasel selected this remote island as an ideal place to go for youth and teachers to study and learn from each other. The place served the purpose very well from another point of view: we weren’t exposed to inquisitive looks of the ones who might have denounced us as conspirators against the communist regime. Time passed, conditions changed, but the hunger for knowledge and new experiences remained. Our tradition continues, but now with the support of many different governments and organizations from all around the world. This year the Academy celebrates 20th anniversary and will host nearly 500 students and teachers from across the region and around the world who will come here for one of the most unique learning experiences on the planet. We are grateful to the many individuals and organizations who have participated in or supported the event through the years and look forward to many more years to come," said Sorin Repanovici, Vice President of the World Genesis Foundation.
The Academy still takes place today on the same small island on the Danube river near the village and ancient Roman ruins of Capidava in Romania. A remote and wild island for most of the year… it is transformed into a special and almost magical place for ten days each summer where youth can join teachers to explore leading edge educational topics and the limits of their imaginations in a very unique and special environment.
