Deborah Koff-Chapin developed the technique of Touch Drawing
and describes Touch Drawing as a simple yet profound process
where the fingers take the place of pen or brush. Paper is
placed over a freshly painted surface. Wherever it is touched,
an imprint is made on the backside. Impulses from within take
form on paper through the movement of the fingertips on the
page.
This amazing technique was brought to Atlantykron Summer Academy 2012. Students had the opportunity to learn more about the process though an education video and then practice the technique in a unique outdoor setting using various paints and papers. Art sessions were held daily including a session using Deborah’s new CD Beneath the Word, soul-infused singing, heartbeat drumming, and Tibetan bowls as well as a session with live music provided by students. Student work was displayed in a hanging exhibit for all participants to view during the Academy.
This was a technique of self-expression and used as a springboard for group discussions. The applications of Touch Drawing were explored by students in different careers, work settings and as a form of personal expression. “I had the chance to facilitate and instruct this program this year. We are so grateful to Deborah for her continued support and her amazing donation of Soul Cards, that inspired youth in their process of Touch Drawing and enriched their experience,” said Heather Caton, President and CEO of World Genesis Foundation and Touch Drawing Instructor. This technique has been brought to programs all over the world and it was great to bring it to Romania for the 2012 Youth Academy. We look forward to the continued sharing of this amazing artistic technique to youth around the world.
