Atlantykron Youth Academy held on an island on the Danube
River near the village and ancient Roman ruins of Capidava in
Romania August 4-11 2012. This year Naftaly Ngugi, from South
Africa, attended as a special guest and presenter. He spoke to
the youth about his experiences as a coordinator of a youth
camp in South Africa, Camp Bambanani, whose mission is to
inspire children and youth to be confident in their abilities
to make healthy personal choices and a positive contribution
to their communities by rekindling the spirit of joy,
curiosity and creativity inherent in childhood, teaching and
empowering, and fostering resilience and healthy coping
skills. He also spoke about his more than 20 years with
Outward Bound in Kenya and South Africa.
“I had a wonderful and inspiring experience at Atlantykron. It was more than I expected! It turned out to be an immense and deeply personal journey for me. I have had time to reflect and have come to the realization that the experience on the Island helped to re-define who I am and to my surprise, revealed what my core purpose is.
I was overwhelmed by the warmth, kindness, friendliness and generosity of all that I met. I was honored to be amongst such highly intelligent people yet so humble. It was encouraging to see young and old engrossed actively in the sessions. I have not stopped talking about my experience since I came back. Once again, thank you very much for the opportunity and I look forward to my next visit to that special Island in Capidova… and meeting old and new friends,” said Naftaly.
Naftaly Ngugi was also the recipient of the Life Time of Hope Award in 2011. This award is dedicated to recognize those who are making a difference and creating opportunity in the lives of youth. “It was great to have Naftaly attend the academy. He added so much to the program for the youth and we look forward to more opportunities in the future,” said Sorin Repanovici, Atlantykron coordinator and co-founder of World Genesis Foundation.
