Jake Mace, owner of Phoenix longevity Arts, in Phoenix Arizona, joined Atlantykron Summer Academy as a virtual guest, speaking about the windows into the future of Medicine using Tai Chi and Qigong as a practice for healing, health and longevity. Jake spoke with over 400 youth and other participants about the history and benefits of Tai Chi and Qigong, answering questions from young bright students about his years as a martial artist and to share a message to the new generation about using Tai Chi and Qigong to stay healthy in this time we are living. “Tai Chi is one of the famous areas of Chinese Kung Fu and is considered an iatrical area for literally giving your body a Meditation while in Motion,” said Jake.
The Tai Chi and Chi Gong program at Atlantykron Summer Academy 2013 had classes running daily with instructor Peter Moon and Heather Caton. The group of Tai Chi and Chi Gong students not only learned some of the basics of Tai Chi and Chi Gong such as breath work and energy through the classes, they had the opportunity to practice and understand the practical applications of the exercises and forms. In the Tai Chi class, a team was formed to learn and practice a Tai Chi from, Chen style Tai Chi Fan Form and perform it in the evening program for Jake and the rest of the participants.
This accomplished several goals and it became a lot more than just a Tai Chi performance. The students developed skills of team building. Working with each other was challenging because they came from different backgrounds, had different skill levels and not everyone had the same level of confidence. They also strengthened their ability to be creative problem solvers as they worked together through challenges of the environment and the form. For many of the students it is just the beginning of their Tai Chi and Chi Gong journey. “We are very thankful for Jake to join us on the island as a virtual guest. I know the students had such a great time and experienced a lot and they are anxious to continue their learning,” said Heather Caton, Tai Chi instructor.
