The Brain Games program was created by World Genesis
Foundation and was designed to challenge students in logic,
mathematics and brain teasers. It was designed to engage all
participants at different age levels and experience. It
involved 6 daily puzzles that participants had 24 hours to
solve, this ran through the length of the academy. It also
involved a weekly challenge of 20 puzzles cards that students
had the week to solve. For younger students we had daily
labyrinths for them to solve. Each day the Labyrinths were
more challenging. We also placed wooden puzzles in the canteen
for anybody to work on. As participants solved them we showed
them the next challenge.
It with over 26 teams each with 2-5 members. We also had several participants who worked as an individual. Each morning teams had to get their daily puzzles answers to the “Brain Team.” This team was made up of 5 people with different skills and experience. They looked at each question and the answers to determine the daily scores. Some answers developed into wonderful discussions and debates. In the evening program, the “Brain Team” developed slides that showed the daily scores along with the puzzles and the answers. It was wonderful to get the feedback daily that demonstrated people were really thinking, some of the question had more than one answer. Young students found us every day to show us the solution to their labyrinths and to get the next challenge.
At the end of the program we had received the weekly challenge from all participating teams. The “Brain Team” scored the puzzles based on level of difficulty for a 1-4 score. At the awards night winning teams were announced for first, seconded, third and fourth place. We also had the junior winners, first, second and third. World Genesis Foundation sponsored medals and prizes that were given to each winning team member and junior winner.
One of the great results of the program is that students engaged daily in the challenge. It sparked the minds no matter what age and the whole island got involved in the interactive program in many ways. It was great to see the teams think outside the books and collectively come up with truly creative answers to some challenging questions. This program had underlining results than just answering puzzles. It required teams to think creatively, collectively, fostering team building and brining different skills and experience together to find solutions.
