World Genesis Foundation Headquarters
In partnership with the Radio Team at Atlantykron Summer
Academy, World Genesis Foundation, brought a series of 7
classes focused an introduction to Morse code. A universal
language used by thousands of people worldwide. Morse code has
been a primary method of communication all over the world for
over 150 years. It is a universal language which allows users
to cross language barriers and communicate cross culturally.
Morse code offers a sure method of communication. Goals of the
class included.
• Learn and practice the Morse Code alphabet and numbers.
• Participate in daily games and competitions using Morse code
• Create your own Morse Code message craft using beads.
The class was held daily with 40 participants. The lessons were broken down into a few letters and numbers a day. Each day lesson built on the previous days learning. In classes, students listened to the lesson, writing down what they heard, a letter or number to a sound or musical tone. The lesson had the students repeating the few letters and numbers and creating small words. At the end of the lesson there was a “daily run” which went through a long series of that day’s letters and number. This was to challenge the students and created a competition to see if they could hear and remember the sounds that associated with the numbers and letters. The classes were to introduce and to begin to train using a musical ear. With the support of the Armature Radio team, we held two addition classes, one in the morning and one in the evening, for smaller groups that wanted extra learning. The smaller groups were of about 4-5 students and were run by the Armature Radio team.
In the evening program the radio team showed some educational videos to in the musical tones of Morse code. What was great is that students were sparked with interest and participated in not only the Morse code class but other Radio activities, such as fox hunting and in the Morse code craft, creating a message with beads.
Keeping in line with the ideals of UNESCO, Atlantykron Summer Academy greatly promotes UNESCO core goals to contribute to the creation of sustainable development and intercultural dialogue by promoting collaboration among nations through education, science, culture and communication.
